A Gluten Free Menu Now Available
The Gluten Free Diet is more than just a fad diet. For those who suffer from Celiac disease or gluten intolerance, it is a necessity. It is not a trend but a way of life.
It is about time that all of us pay attention to the fact that gluten intolerance is suspected to affect some 30% of Americans.
Convito Café & Market became aware of this problem as more and more of our market customers asked for gluten-free grocery items and café customers inquired about which items on our menu were gluten free. That fact and my sister’s wheat allergy diagnosis, motivated me to do some research.
Convito Chef Noe Sanchez and I discovered that it is not just a simple matter of eliminating wheat – obvious things like bread and pasta- from our gluten free menus. We discovered that many things contained wheat - cheeses that use bread products to produce their cheese, pickles that are marinated in malt vinegar – certainly a no no for people with wheat allergies. The list goes on and on. We researched every item we put on our “Gluten Free Menu” and if we had any doubt after calling the producers, we left those items off the menu.
Convito Café is proud to offer Brunch, Lunch and Dinner Gluten Free Menus (Dinner Menu attached). Our Market is also proud to boast that our entire selection of 21 homemade sauces is gluten free. We also offer a number of grocery items, which guarantee gluten free on their labels.
More and more products are being developed in recognition of this intolerance and Convito is committed to searching out more products and developing more dishes that can be categorized as gluten free.

People who have gluten sensitivities exclude all sources of the following grains from their diet: wheat, barley, oats, rye & their derivatives. Convito has taken the necessary precautions to ensure the following menu items & their preparations are free of elements that might cause a reaction to those with gluten sensitivity.
